Core Circus members are people who devote their time to sustaining the life and community of the Circus in between workshops and sessions. Beginning with a 2-4 workshop apprenticeship, core members are on tour in the spring and fall, traveling to facilitate stop-motion animation workshops at schools and universities, art and film festivals, and museums and galleries.
During the summer and winter months, core collaborators spend time at our home bases in Grinnell, IA and New Orleans, LA, where duties involve organizing the Summer and Winter Sessions, planning for upcoming tours, and maintaining Tiny Circus infrastructure. They complete a wide array of tasks, from interviewing Summer and Winter Session applicants to shooting new animations to building new rooms at our home bases. Core members are fully immersed in Tiny Circus life and can expect to have a fairly irregular schedule for the months on tour. These full-time Circus members co-op on food and living expenses and spend little time apart from the organization. They are paid a moderate stipend in accordance with the season’s workshop schedule and can count on living and working in an environment of creativity and an enriching community.
